What moment has defined your journey the most?

I have had many pivotal moments, however, the wheel stirring the ship was realizing the historical circumstances that led to inequities in the black community. I guess you could call it a wake up call. My professor at the time, Shannon King, shed light on dim areas within our history I overlooked, didn’t have full understanding of, and saw through the perspective of a white narrative aka The Miseducation of a Negro (IYKYK). My fire was ignited, and I wanted to do my part by carrying the torch of our ancestors. Playing a vital role in uplifting and liberating the black community became a prominent part of who I am. My why has been my guiding light and the reason I choose to fulfill this vision. Releasing the imposter syndrome that plagued my mind was also a huge come to Jesus moment because I let go of the part of me holding me back from being my truest self.

What drives you?

I am driven by Proverbs 3:5-6, purpose, and Ubuntu (I am because we are). I deeply resonate with the saying, “You are here for a reason”. Knowing I was placed on this earth for a reason and believing that reason is to fulfill the will of God. I seek alignment of passion and purpose by utilizing my talents to lead with my heart. This way, I get to live my life to the fullest, work with communities, and pour into humanity with a spirit of reciprocity. I am driven by a desire to live out my wildest dreams and create a new lane of greatness. To experience all there is life has to offer being unapologetically me, without the veil of unreasonable limitations.

How are you paving the way for people in your community to succeed? Or opening doors that were once closed?

As the youngest board of director to serve on the School District of University City’s Board of Education, I watched as children, and my peers were inspired to also run for office. When I ran, I was still teaching second grade. My students were amazed by me running for office at “such a young age”. This experience helped them dispel the belief that you have to be old, white, and or a man to be in office. As an author, I have been able to travel reading to and teaching elementary students important financial lessons. Through Financial Friends Foundation, I hope to create wealth and income building g opportunities for elementary students. Through my publishing and media company I strive to continue working with authors, writing, acting, and collaborate with my peers in the film/tv industry. Not sure how yet, but I also aim to create and influence equitable policies.

Most meaningful project to date ?

It is a quadruple tie between running for office at 25 and becoming VP of the school board, writing Savannah’s Savings Jar to teach elementary students financial literacy, taking a group of 5th graders to Tennessee and Alabama, and executive producing a tv pilot.
